Description:

The MG IM6 is a large electric five-seat SUV aimed at the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7 and Xpeng G6. It’s built by IM Motors, a sister brand to MG within SAIC, and sold through MG in the UK and Europe, with a rear-wheel-drive Long Range and an all-wheel-drive Performance version. Both share a large battery on an 800-volt platform, and every version gets four-wheel steering. MG doesn’t sell cars in Canada.

Range, Battery, and Charging of the MG IM6:

The Long Range is rated at up to 625 km on the WLTP cycle.
All-wheel-drive versions on 21-inch wheels (the UK Performance and Launch Edition, or Germany’s Premium AWD with the Drive Pack) are rated at 505 km; Germany’s Premium AWD on 20-inch wheels with steel springs is rated at 545 km.
Both versions use a 100 kWh (gross) nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery, of which 96.5 kWh is usable.
DC fast charging peaks at 396 kW, and 10% to 80% takes about 17 minutes on a 350 to 400 kW charger.
The onboard AC charger accepts up to 11 kW, and a heat pump and vehicle-to-load (V2L) power outlet are standard.

Powertrain and Performance of the MG IM6:

The Long Range uses a single 300 kW rear motor with 500 Nm of torque.
The Performance adds a front motor for all-wheel drive, with 553 kW and 802 Nm.
MG quotes 0–100 km/h in 5.4 seconds for the Long Range and 3.5 seconds for the Performance.
Top speed is 235 km/h for the Long Range and 239 km/h for the Performance.
Four-wheel steering is standard and includes a Crab Mode that lets the car move diagonally at low speed.

Technology and Features of the MG IM6:

A 26.3-inch one-piece dashboard display sits above a 10.5-inch lower touchscreen.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included.
A 20-speaker sound system and a 50 W wireless phone charger are fitted.
The front seats are heated and ventilated, and the driver’s seat has a massage function.
A heat pump and a vehicle-to-load (V2L) power outlet are standard.

Is the MG IM6 sold in Canada?

No. MG doesn't sell cars in Canada and hasn't announced plans to. The IM6 is sold in markets such as the UK and Europe. Our guide to Chinese EVs in Canada tracks which Chinese brands and models are coming.

Would the MG IM6 qualify for EV rebates in Canada?

Not federally if a Canadian IM6 were built in China, because EVAP excludes China-built vehicles, and Manitoba's rebate excludes China-made EVs bought after March 19, 2025. Quebec's Roulez vert, the only other provincial purchase rebate, ends on December 31, 2026, and MG hasn't announced any plans to sell cars in Canada.

Is the IM6 an MG or an IM?

Both, in a sense. IM Motors is a premium electric brand within SAIC, MG's parent company, and in the UK and Europe its cars are sold through MG as the MG IM6 and the MG IM5 sedan.

How far can the MG IM6 go on a charge?

The rear-wheel-drive Long Range is rated at up to 625 km on the WLTP cycle. All-wheel-drive versions on 21-inch wheels are rated at 505 km, while Germany's Premium AWD on 20-inch wheels with steel springs is rated at 545 km. Expect noticeably less in a Canadian winter, as with any EV.

The boot holds about 650 to 665 litres with the rear seats up, or 646 litres on versions with air suspension, and roughly 1,620 to 1,640 litres with them folded. There's also a 32-litre front trunk, and the IM6 can tow a trailer.
