Frequently Asked Questions

Possibly, but it isn't confirmed for sale in Canada yet. Dongfeng and its Quebec importer, North World Industry, showed six vehicles in Montreal in July 2026, including the VIGO, and the importer said the goal is to begin selling in Canada in 2027. The importer has also said Canadian versions will differ from those sold elsewhere, with standard dual-motor all-wheel drive, so power, performance and range are likely to change. Canadian specs haven't been announced, so the figures on this page, which come from Dongfeng's distributors in New Zealand, the Philippines and Norway, may change. Our guide to Chinese EVs in Canada tracks which brands and models are expected.
Not federally if Canadian VIGOs are built in China, because EVAP excludes China-built vehicles, and Manitoba's rebate excludes China-made EVs bought after March 19, 2025. Quebec's Roulez vert, the only other provincial purchase rebate, ends on December 31, 2026, before the 2027 date Dongfeng's importer has given for starting Canadian sales.
Dongfeng's distributors quote about 18 minutes to fast-charge from 30% to 80%, with DC charging peaking at 167 kW. On a Level 2 charger, the onboard charger accepts up to 6.6 kW, and Dongfeng Philippines quotes about 7 hours for a full charge from empty. Dongfeng hasn't confirmed charging specs for Canada. To plan home charging, try the EV charging cost calculator.
Dongfeng New Zealand lists 340 km, labelled WLTP but converted from Chinese CLTC test data with New Zealand's official calculator, and the CLTC figure for the same battery is 471 km. A New Zealand test car was on track for about 350 km, and a Philippine test averaged about 12 to 13 kWh per 100 km over a week of city and highway driving. Cold weather reduces the range of any EV, so expect less in a Canadian winter, although the heat pump fitted in New Zealand and Norway helps.
The VIGO sold in New Zealand, the Philippines and Norway uses a 51.87 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, and Dongfeng New Zealand lists vehicle-to-load (V2L) for powering devices from it. Warranty terms vary by market: Dongfeng New Zealand lists six years or 200,000 km on the vehicle and eight years or 200,000 km on the battery, while Norway's importer lists five years or 150,000 km on the vehicle and eight years or 200,000 km on the driveline. Canadian warranty terms haven't been announced.
The VIGO is 4,306 mm long, 1,868 mm wide and 1,654 mm tall, on a 2,715 mm wheelbase, and it seats five. Dongfeng New Zealand lists 500 L of cargo space with the rear seats up and 1,040 L with them folded, and the split tailgate's lower section opens separately and can double as a seat (Norway's importer rates it at up to 150 kg). Rear legroom and headroom are generous for a vehicle of this length, and the rear floor is flat.
In New Zealand, the Philippines and Norway, the VIGO has a single 120 kW front motor with 230 Nm of torque, and Dongfeng New Zealand quotes 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds and a top speed of 150 km/h. It's quick off the line and easy to bring up to speed. The steering and suspension are less settled around 100 km/h and on rough roads, and a New Zealand test noted wind noise on the motorway.
In New Zealand, the VIGO comes with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, traffic sign recognition, a 360-degree camera and front, side and curtain airbags. Test cars in New Zealand and Singapore had no blind-spot monitoring. New Zealand gives the VIGO a five-star Vehicle Safety Risk Rating, an estimate based on real-world crash data for similar vehicles rather than a crash test, and there are no North American crash-test ratings yet.
The VIGO is the larger of the two: 4,306 mm long against 4,020 mm for the Box. Dongfeng New Zealand lists 500 L of cargo space for the VIGO against 326 L for the European Box, although the two figures come from different markets and may not be measured the same way. In New Zealand, the Philippines and Norway the VIGO also has more power (120 kW vs 70 kW for the European Box) and a bigger 51.87 kWh battery, and Dongfeng quotes 18 minutes from 30% to 80% on a DC fast charger against about 30 minutes for the Box. Range is closer: 340 km for the VIGO in New Zealand, converted from CLTC data, and up to 310 km WLTP for the Box in Europe. Neither model is sold in Canada yet, and both were among the vehicles Dongfeng showed in Montreal in July 2026.
In New Zealand, the Philippines and Norway it doesn't — those cars use a single 120 kW motor driving the front wheels. Dongfeng's Quebec importer has said Canadian versions are planned with standard dual-motor all-wheel drive, so power, performance and range would differ from the figures on this page. Canadian drivetrain specs haven't been announced yet.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

Dongfeng New Zealand lists 500 L of cargo space, and reviewers in New Zealand, the Philippines and Singapore singled out the two-piece tailgate, whose lower half opens separately and can be used as a bench.
The 2,715 mm wheelbase gives generous rear legroom and headroom, and reviewers around 1.8 m tall had space to spare on the flat rear floor.
Charging peaks at 167 kW, and Dongfeng quotes 30% to 80% in about 18 minutes, which is quick for a battery of this size.
New Zealand cars come with a 360-degree camera, a heated and ventilated driver's seat with memory, a 12.8-inch touchscreen and a 50 W ventilated wireless phone charger.
The soft-touch dashboard and door trim and the leatherette upholstery make the cabin feel more upscale than its class.
With 120 kW and 230 Nm, the VIGO is quick off the line and easy to bring up to speed, and Dongfeng New Zealand quotes 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds.
Camp and nap modes, vehicle-to-load (V2L) and rear seats that fold flat for long items make the VIGO easy to use as a base for a weekend away.

Cons:

The steering is light, and the steering and suspension are less composed around 100 km/h and on rough roads.
Lane-keeping assist can be too eager or imprecise, and test cars in New Zealand and Singapore had no blind-spot monitoring.
Apple CarPlay is built in, but Android Auto needs an adapter or accessory in some markets, and some on-screen text is untranslated or awkwardly translated.
Rear passengers get a single air vent and a single USB-C port.
Most functions are run through the screen or voice control, and the steering wheel adjusts for height but not reach.
