    Description:

The Subaru Solterra is a compact all-electric SUV developed through Subaru’s partnership with Toyota and built on a dedicated EV platform. For 2026, The Subaru Solterra receives significant updates to its battery system, motors, charging capability, suspension, and interior technology, addressing many of the limitations noted in earlier versions.

Range and Battery of the Subaru Solterra:

    • Uses a 77 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, slightly larger than the previous version.
    • Estimated driving range reaches up to 430 km, with higher trims offering approximately 446 km.
    • Efficiency improvements contribute more to range gains than battery-size increases.
    • DC fast charging supports up to 150 kW, reducing 10–80% charging time to about 30 minutes.
    • Standard 11 kW AC onboard charger can recharge the battery in roughly 10–11 hours and now uses the NACS (J3400) charging connector.

Powertrain and Performance of the Subaru Solterra:

    • Dual-motor all-wheel-drive system is standard across the lineup, with outputs of 252 kW (338 hp) on all trims.
    • XT variants use a larger front motor and can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in approximately 4.9–5.1 seconds.
    • New electric motors are smaller, lighter, and more efficient than before, contributing to improved performance and energy consumption.
    • Ground clearance remains at 211 mm, higher than many electric crossover competitors and beneficial for rough roads and light off-road use.
    • Revised suspension, steering system, and subframe improve ride comfort, stability, and control while maintaining a relatively smooth driving character.

Technology and Features of the Subaru Solterra:

    • Standard 14-inch touchscreen is the largest display fitted to a Subaru and includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
    • Available 360-degree camera system includes terrain-view functions useful for maneuvering and off-road driving.
    • Dual wireless phone chargers, USB-C ports, and over-the-air connected services are available.
    • Touring models add heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, premium audio, and a digital rearview mirror.
    • X-Mode traction management, hill-descent control, and software-controlled torque distribution enhance capability on low-traction surfaces.

The Subaru Solterra has an estimated electric driving range of 446 km across the Base AWD, Luxury AWD, and Technology AWD trim levels. Reviewers noted that the updated Subaru Solterra improves range compared with the earlier model, although it still competes in a segment where some EVs offer longer range.
The Subaru Solterra produces 252 kW and 435 Nm of torque in the specification table. Reviewers described the updated Subaru Solterra as much quicker than before, with stronger acceleration from its dual-motor all-wheel-drive system.
The Subaru Solterra accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds. Reviewers found the Subaru Solterra responsive in normal driving, with quick electric torque delivery and stronger performance than the previous version.
The Subaru Solterra takes about 30 minutes on Level 3 DC fast charging and about 11 hours on Level 2 charging. The updated Subaru Solterra was also praised in the transcripts for improved charging capability compared with the earlier model.
The Subaru Solterra is suitable for light off-road use, gravel roads, snow, and uneven surfaces. Reviewers highlighted the Subaru Solterra’s all-wheel-drive system, X-Mode, hill-descent control, and 211 mm ground clearance as useful features for mild trail driving.
The Subaru Solterra trim levels are Base AWD, Luxury AWD, and Technology AWD. The Subaru Solterra starts at CAD 52,500 for Base AWD, CAD 55,500 for Luxury AWD, and CAD 58,500 for Technology AWD.
The Subaru Solterra has a top speed of 160 km/h. This is typical for many compact electric SUVs, where the focus is more on instant torque, efficiency, and daily usability than high-speed performance.
The Subaru Solterra interior is comfortable and technology-focused, with a large central touchscreen, wireless smartphone features, available 360-degree camera views, and supportive seats. Reviewers also noted some practical limitations in the Subaru Solterra, including no glove box and cargo space that is useful but not class-leading.
The Subaru Solterra has improved compared with the earlier model, but reviewers still mentioned a few limitations. The Subaru Solterra does not have a front trunk, does not include a spare tire, has a smaller cargo area than some rivals, and its high-mounted instrument display may not suit every driver.

    Pros & Cons

    Pros:

The Subaru Solterra Base AWD, Luxury AWD, and Technology AWD all include dual-motor all-wheel drive, giving the vehicle consistent traction for rain, snow, gravel roads, and light trail use.
The Subaru Solterra produces 252 kW and 435 Nm of torque, with a 0–100 km/h time of 5.1 seconds. Reviewers noted that the updated model feels much quicker and more responsive than the previous version.
The Subaru Solterra offers 446 km of electric range across all three trims, supported by a 77 kWh battery. This makes the vehicle more practical for daily use and moderate-distance trips than the earlier Solterra.
The Subaru Solterra supports Level 3 fast charging in about 30 minutes and Level 2 charging in about 11 hours, addressing one of the most common criticisms of the earlier model.
Reviewers repeatedly highlighted the Subaru Solterra’s 211 mm ground clearance, X-Mode, hill-descent control, and software-based traction management as advantages over many low-riding electric crossovers.
The Subaru Solterra is often described as smooth, quiet, and easy to drive, with supportive seats, light steering, and a suspension setup focused more on comfort than sporty handling.
The Subaru Solterra includes a large central touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, available 360-degree camera views, USB-C ports, dual wireless phone charging, and useful driver-assistance features.

    Cons:

The Subaru Solterra’s 30-minute Level 3 charging time is better than before, but some competing electric SUVs can charge faster under ideal conditions.
The Subaru Solterra has a sloped rear design, which limits vertical cargo space compared with boxier SUVs. Reviewers found the cargo area practical, but not especially large.
The Subaru Solterra does not include a frunk, and reviewers and owners commonly mention the lack of a spare tire as a practical limitation for longer trips or rural driving.
The Subaru Solterra has no traditional glove box, and the high-mounted instrument display may feel unusual depending on driver height and seating position.
The Subaru Solterra starts at CAD 52,500 for Base AWD, CAD 55,500 for Luxury AWD, and CAD 58,500 for Technology AWD, placing it in a competitive price range with several longer-range or faster-charging EVs.
