Description:

The Dongfeng Box is a compact five-seat electric hatchback, sold in China as the Nammi 01. It isn’t confirmed for sale in Canada, and European versions come with a choice of two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries.

Range, Battery, and Charging of the Dongfeng Box:

  • WLTP range is 230 km with the 31.4 kWh battery and 310 km with the 42.3 kWh battery.
  • Dongfeng quotes a DC fast charge from 30% to 80% in about 30 minutes for both batteries.
  • The onboard AC charger accepts up to 3.3 kW with the 31.4 kWh battery and up to 6.6 kW with the 42.3 kWh battery.
  • EVSearch estimates a full Level 2 charge from empty at about 7 hours for the 42.3 kWh battery and about 10.5 hours for the 31.4 kWh battery.
  • Vehicle-to-load (V2L) comes with the 42.3 kWh battery and supplies up to 3.6 kW.

Powertrain and Performance of the Dongfeng Box:

  • A single 70 kW motor drives the front wheels and makes 160 Nm of torque on both versions.
  • Top speed is 140 km/h.
  • Dongfeng quotes 0 to 50 km/h in 4.6 to 4.8 seconds and doesn’t publish a 0 to 100 km/h time.
  • Curb weight is 1,356 kg with the 31.4 kWh battery and 1,430 kg with the 42.3 kWh battery.
  • The Box is 4,020 mm long and 1,810 mm wide, on a 2,663 mm wheelbase.

Technology and Features of the Dongfeng Box:

  • A central touchscreen runs most functions, including climate, with a small digital driver display.
  • Adaptive cruise control with lane centring was standard on European and New Zealand test cars.
  • Upper trims add a 360-degree camera, a cooled wireless phone charger and a heated, ventilated driver’s seat.
  • Some test cars had wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; others needed a cable or an app.

Frequently Asked Questions

Possibly, but it isn't confirmed for sale in Canada yet. Dongfeng and its Quebec importer, North World Industry, showed six vehicles in Montreal in July 2026, and the importer said the goal is to begin selling in Canada in 2027. One of them was the Nammi Box 01, a version of the car sold in China as the Nammi 01 and in Europe as the Box. The importer says Canadian versions will differ from European ones, including standard all-wheel drive, so the specs on this page may change. Our guide to Chinese EVs in Canada tracks which brands and models are expected.
Not federally, because the Box is built in China and EVAP excludes China-built vehicles, and Manitoba's rebate excludes China-made EVs bought after March 19, 2025. Quebec's Roulez vert, the only other provincial purchase rebate, ends on December 31, 2026, before the 2027 date Dongfeng's importer has given for starting Canadian sales.
In Europe, Dongfeng quotes about 30 minutes to fast-charge either battery from 30% to 80%. On a Level 2 charger, EVSearch estimates a full charge from empty at about 7 hours for the 42.3 kWh battery, which accepts up to 6.6 kW, and about 10.5 hours for the 31.4 kWh battery, which accepts up to 3.3 kW. Dongfeng hasn't confirmed charging specs for Canada. To plan home charging, try the EV charging cost calculator.
European versions are rated at 230 km WLTP with the 31.4 kWh battery and 310 km with the 42.3 kWh battery. A Croatian test of the larger-battery version estimated about 250 km in mixed driving, and up to about 300 km with gentle open-road driving in summer. Cold weather reduces the range of any EV, so expect less in a Canadian winter.
European versions use a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery of either 31.4 kWh or 42.3 kWh, and only the larger battery adds vehicle-to-load (V2L) output of up to 3.6 kW. In the Netherlands, Dongfeng's importer covers the battery for eight years or 200,000 km and the rest of the car for five years or 150,000 km. Canadian warranty terms haven't been announced.
The Box is 4,020 mm long, 1,810 mm wide and 1,570 mm tall, on a 2,663 mm wheelbase, and it seats five. Cargo space is 326 L behind the rear seat and 945 L with the seatback folded. The rear seat is roomier than expected for a car this size, though the one-piece seatback doesn't split and the cargo opening has a high load lip.
A single 70 kW front motor with 160 Nm of torque powers every version. Dongfeng quotes 0 to 50 km/h in 4.6 to 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 140 km/h, but doesn't publish a 0 to 100 km/h time. It's fine in town but slow when passing above about 80 km/h.
Euro NCAP gave the Box three out of five stars in 2025. Adaptive cruise control with lane centring was standard on the European and New Zealand test cars, but blind-spot monitoring was missing on some trims and markets. There are no North American crash-test ratings for the Box yet.
Against the BYD Dolphin Surf, the Box is slightly longer (4,020 mm vs 3,990 mm) and has more cargo space (326 L vs 308 L), with similar WLTP range: 230 to 310 km for the Box and 220 to 322 km for the Dolphin Surf. The larger BYD Dolphin offers 427 km of WLTP range from a 60.4 kWh battery and 150 kW of power, against the Box's 70 kW. On a DC fast charger, BYD quotes 22 to 25 minutes from 30% to 80% for the Dolphin Surf and 29 minutes for the 60.4 kWh Dolphin, against about 30 minutes for the Box. None of these models is sold in Canada yet, and all figures are for European versions.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

It has features that are rare in a car this small, such as a cooled wireless phone charger, a ventilated driver's seat and, on upper trims, a 360-degree camera.
There's more rear legroom and headroom than you'd expect from a car just over 4 m long.
Soft suspension soaks up bumps, and the cabin is quiet at city speeds.
The Box uses little energy in mixed driving, which helps stretch its small batteries.
Quilted upholstery and soft-touch surfaces make the interior feel more upscale than the car's size suggests.
The turning circle is tight and the view out is clear, and the camera system on upper trims helps in tight spaces.
With the 42.3 kWh battery, vehicle-to-load (V2L) can supply up to 3.6 kW to run tools, appliances or camping gear.

Cons:

The single 70 kW motor is fine in town, but passing is slow above about 80 km/h, and top speed is 140 km/h.
Adding half a charge to these small batteries still takes about 30 minutes (Dongfeng's 30% to 80% figure), so highway trips mean frequent stops of that length.
Euro NCAP gave the Box three out of five stars in 2025, and blind-spot monitoring is missing on some trims and markets.
There are no rear air vents or rear USB ports, the one-piece rear seatback doesn't split, and the cargo opening has a high load lip.
The camera and screen can lag, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were missing, wired-only or unreliable in some markets.
