Description:

The Geely EX5 is a compact electric crossover SUV with front-wheel drive and a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. It’s sold in Europe, where Germany calls it the E5, but it isn’t confirmed for sale in Canada.

Range, Battery, and Charging of the Geely EX5:

  • WLTP range is 430 km with the 60.22 kWh battery and 450 km with the 68.39 kWh battery.
  • Geely quotes a DC fast charge from 10% to 80% in about 34 minutes for both batteries.
  • Geely quotes a 10% to 100% AC charge in 6.1 hours for the 60.22 kWh battery and 7 hours for the 68.39 kWh battery on a 7 kW wallbox. The onboard charger accepts up to 11 kW, but only on three-phase power, which North American homes don’t have.
  • WLTP energy use is 15.8 kWh/100 km with the 60.22 kWh battery and 16.9 kWh/100 km with the 68.39 kWh battery.
  • Vehicle-to-load (V2L) comes on every European version, so the car can power appliances or tools.

Powertrain and Performance of the Geely EX5:

  • A single 160 kW motor drives the front wheels and makes 320 Nm of torque on every version.
  • Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 6.9 to 7.6 seconds, depending on the version.
  • Top speed is 175 km/h.
  • Curb weight runs from 1,790 kg to 1,890 kg.
  • The EX5 is 4,615 mm long and 1,901 mm wide, on a 2,750 mm wheelbase.

Technology and Features of the Geely EX5:

  • A 15.4-inch central touchscreen runs most functions, including the sunroof, with a digital driver display.
  • Some trims add a head-up display.
  • Over-the-air software updates have added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in several markets.
  • A 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring were standard on UK and Australian test cars.

Frequently Asked Questions

Possibly, but Geely hasn't confirmed it for Canada. In October 2026, Geely said it has a Canadian team in place, is building a sales and service network and plans to deliver its first vehicles in 2027, but it hasn't said which models will come. In Germany, the same car is sold as the Geely E5. Our guide to Chinese EVs in Canada tracks which brands and models are expected.
Not federally, because the EX5 is built in China and EVAP excludes China-built vehicles, and Manitoba's rebate excludes China-made EVs bought after March 19, 2025. Quebec's Roulez vert, the only other provincial purchase rebate, ends on December 31, 2026, before Geely plans to deliver its first Canadian vehicles in 2027.
European versions accept up to 11 kW on AC, but only from three-phase power, which Canadian homes don't have. In the UK, where homes use single-phase power like Canada, Geely quotes a 10% to 100% charge in 6.1 hours for the 60.22 kWh battery and 7 hours for the 68.39 kWh battery on a 7 kW wallbox, close to the 7.2 kW a typical Canadian home Level 2 charger supplies. Geely hasn't confirmed charging specs for Canada. To plan home charging, try the EV charging cost calculator.
Geely quotes about 34 minutes to charge either battery from 10% to 80% at a DC fast charger. Geely also quotes 20 minutes from 30% to 80%. Peak DC charging power is 120 kW with the 60.22 kWh battery and 135 kW with the 68.39 kWh battery. In German and Australian tests, fast-charging stops on long trips took longer than in some quicker-charging rivals.
European versions are rated at 430 km WLTP with the 60.22 kWh battery and 450 km with the 68.39 kWh battery. A German summer test of the larger battery projected about 425 km at a steady 100 km/h and about 340 km at 130 km/h. Cold weather reduces the range of any EV, so expect less in a Canadian winter.
European versions use a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery of 60.22 kWh or 68.39 kWh, and every version has vehicle-to-load (V2L). In Germany, Geely covers the car for eight years or 200,000 km, and the battery for eight years or 200,000 km against its capacity dropping below 70%. Canadian warranty terms haven't been announced.
The EX5 is 4,615 mm long, 1,901 mm wide and 1,670 mm tall, on a 2,750 mm wheelbase, and its rear seat is especially roomy. Geely quotes 461 L of cargo space behind the rear seats and 1,877 L with them folded, though some UK and Australian sources quoted 410 L, and there's no front trunk.
The EX5 earned five stars from Euro NCAP and from ANCAP (Australia and New Zealand) in 2025. A 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring were standard on UK and Australian test cars, though the lane-keeping and driver-monitoring alerts can be too eager. There are no North American crash-test ratings for the EX5 yet.
The BYD Atto 3 Evo is shorter at 4,455 mm (vs 4,615 mm), with more cargo space behind the rear seats (490 L vs 461 L) but less with them folded (1,360 L vs 1,877 L), and it has a larger 74.8 kWh battery, 470 to 510 km of WLTP range and a quoted 25-minute 10% to 80% DC charge. The bigger BYD Sealion 7 is 4,830 mm long, with 520 L of cargo space and 456 to 502 km of WLTP range, against the EX5's 430 to 450 km. Unlike the front-wheel-drive EX5, both BYDs come with rear- or all-wheel drive. None of these models is sold in Canada yet, and all figures are for European versions.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

Rear legroom is a standout, with tall adults fitting easily behind tall front occupants.
A deep bin under the cargo floor and a hidden storage drawer under the rear seat add useful space.
Tested trims had features such as a head-up display, ventilated and massaging front seats and a 16-speaker audio system.
The ride is soft and settled, and the cabin is quiet at city and moderate highway speeds.
Soft-touch materials and build quality are better than expected.
The view out is good, and the 360-degree camera is clear.
Over-the-air updates have added new features in several markets, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Cons:

The lane-keeping, speed-limit and driver-monitoring alerts are too eager; a later update added a shortcut to save preferred settings, but it needs a tap at each start.
The body rolls in corners and floats over uneven roads, which rear passengers prone to car sickness may notice.
Geely quotes about 34 minutes from 10% to 80%, so charging stops on long trips are longer than in faster-charging rivals.
Real-world range in everyday driving is noticeably below the rating, especially at highway speeds.
The sunroof and several driver-aid settings are controlled through the touchscreen, which is fiddly while driving.
