It offers 425–490 km of range, 0-100 km/h in as fast as 3.8 seconds, and a top speed of up to 250 km/h. The battery capacity varies from 100.1 kWh (xDrive45) to 113.4 - 112.8 kWh (xDrive60 and M70), with DC fast charging capabilities reaching 200 kW, allowing 10–80% charge in around 30 - 35 minutes.
The BMW iX stands out for its luxurious interior, advanced technology, and long range, competing with the Tesla Model X, Audi e-tron, and Rivian R1S. It offers higher-quality materials and a smoother ride than most competitors but lacks a front trunk (frunk) and has a more polarizing design compared to others.
The BMW iX xDrive60 is rated for 547 km, but real-world tests suggest around 500 km under normal driving conditions. The M70 model, with its higher performance output, achieves a slightly lower range of around 486 km. Cold weather, aggressive driving, and high-speed highway trips can reduce the estimated range.
Charging times vary depending on the charging method: DC Fast Charging (Level 3, 200 kW): 10–80% in about 30 – 35 minutes Level 2 Home Charger (11 kW): 7–11 hours for a full charge Standard Household Outlet: Over 50 hours (not recommended for primary charging)
Yes, the BMW iX offers one-pedal driving in its "B" driving mode, which allows for strong regenerative braking that can bring the vehicle to a complete stop without using the brake pedal.
The BMW iX is equipped with a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, iDrive 8.5 software, and an available Bowers & Wilkins 30-speaker sound system. It also includes gesture controls, voice activation, and augmented reality navigation.
The BMW iX is praised for its spacious interior, high-quality materials, and smooth ride thanks to adaptive air suspension. The heated seats, soft-close doors, and panoramic electrochromic sunroof enhance comfort, making it ideal for long-distance travel.
Some drawbacks include: Controversial exterior design, especially the large kidney grille No front trunk (frunk), limiting storage space compared to rivals High price tag, especially with optional features Steering feel is light, making it less engaging for spirited driving iDrive infotainment system can be complex for new users
Yes, the BMW iX performs well in winter conditions due to its xDrive all-wheel drive system, heated seats and steering wheel, heat pump for efficiency, and advanced traction control systems. However, cold temperatures can reduce the driving range.
The starting prices (CAD) for the BMW iX are: xDrive45: $89,900 xDrive60: $94,900 M70: $129,900 Additional packages and options can push the price well beyond these base figures.

    Pros & Cons

    Pros:

The BMW iX offers competitive electric range options, with the xDrive60 reaching 547 km and the M70 at 486 km. It supports fast charging up to 195 kW, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in around 35 minutes at a DC fast charger.
The BMW iX features a high-end, futuristic cabin with premium materials like sustainably sourced wood, crystal accents, and soft leather or recycled fabric upholstery. Its flat floor design and expansive cabin provide ample legroom and headroom, making long drives comfortable.
The M70 variant boasts an output of 650 hp and 1,100 Nm of torque, delivering a 0-100 km/h time of just 3.8 seconds. Even the xDrive60 offers an impressive 4.6-second sprint, making the iX one of the fastest luxury electric SUVs.
Equipped with BMW’s iDrive 8.5 system, a 14.9-inch curved touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, the BMW iX offers Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a premium Bowers & Wilkins 30-speaker sound system. Gesture controls and a voice assistant further enhance the user experience.
The standard air suspension (on the M70, optional on xDrive 60) provides a buttery smooth ride, absorbing road imperfections effortlessly. The rear-wheel steering system improves maneuverability, making the large SUV feel agile in tight spaces.
BMW incorporates a self-healing polyurethane layer in the large kidney grille, which can repair minor scratches with heat or over time at room temperature, adding a futuristic touch.
The BMW iX includes advanced safety features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and an interior security camera that allows users to monitor the vehicle remotely.

    Cons:

The BMW iX’s bold styling, especially its large kidney grille, receives mixed reactions. Some appreciate its futuristic appeal, while others find it overly aggressive or unattractive.
With a 500L boot capacity, the BMW iX falls short compared to competitors like the Mercedes EQS SUV (880L). Additionally, it lacks a front trunk (frunk), reducing overall storage.
Starting at CAD 89,900 for the xDrive 45 and reaching CAD 129,900 for the M70, the BMW iX is an expensive luxury SUV. Adding optional features like crystal controls, a premium sound system, and a panoramic sunroof can push the price even higher.
While iDrive 8.5 is feature-rich, it has a steep learning curve, requiring time to master. Many essential controls, including climate settings and drive modes, are buried within touchscreen menus, making quick adjustments less intuitive.
Despite its powerful electric motors, the BMW iX lacks the sharp steering feel found in traditional M-badged BMWs. The steering can feel light and disconnected, reducing engagement for those expecting a sporty drive.
